Presbyterians Pro-Life
PPL is an independent (not part of our denomination), nonprofit corporation made up of members and pastors of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) which advocates for renewal in our congregation in support of the belief that “God, who made us in His own image, has forbidden us to shed innocent blood.” Unlike other pro-life groups, PPL does not focus on legislation or political debate but focuses on “strengthening the bonds of family love and nurture” and “protecting innocent life” within the church. PPL offers a variety of written resources to “help Christians approach matters of life and sexuality from the perspective of biblical faith.” More info: www.ppl.org.
Morris Fork Projects
The mission of the Morris Fork Projects is to help the poor, depressed, unemployed and underprivileged to make for selling the indigenous handicrafts of the Appalachian Mountains, an area that had no roads until the 1950’s. Horseback down the creek was the only way in or out. Coal mining was the work, which ran out or got too expensive by the late 50’s and early 60’s when the project started.
Morris Fork Projects is a project of the Presbyterian Women. When the project started, PW began by having a baby shower each May at the Mother-Daughter Banquet. PW also hosted craft shows at Graystone where the Morris Fork folks brought their truly handmade items to sell. When the man who whittled the roosters and hens died, nobody else would take his place. That was his work! Graystone also took a bus trip to Morris Fork for one of their annual craft festivals.
