Director of Youth Ministries

Position Summary –The director of Youth Ministries will work as part of the Youth Ministry Team to provide spiritual nurture, discipleship and outreach for the youth of Graystone.  The Director will work with adults, students and families to accomplish the Mission of Graystone through our youth ministry.  It is our desire to continue to be known as an excellent place of spiritual nurture and challenge for the youth of Graystone and the community.

 

Person Summary – The person we are looking for will first and foremost have a clear and demonstrated love for Jesus Christ; a commitment to scripture as the basis for life and ministry; a growing walk with Christ; a teachable spirit; able to take instruction; an ability to relate to and recruit adults; able to teach; appreciate a variety of music/worship styles; good verbal and written communication skills; and good administrative skills; understands principles of discipleship for today’s youth.

 

Responsibilities: This person will be responsible to carry out the mission of Graystone with and through the Youth Ministry Team by:  

-          Modeling, teaching, encouraging, and supporting the youth of Graystone in their personal relationship with Jesus as their Lord and Savior, helping them live as followers of Christ in the world.

-          Plan and implement weekly teaching and fellowship opportunities at Sunday Stone AM and Wednesday Stone PM.

-          Connecting youth with the larger church family, understanding where youth ministry fits in the big picture of the overall ministry of Graystone as a family.

-          Promote and encourage youth to participate in:

o       Summer’s Best Two Weeks at Graystone or at the residence camp in Boswell and other appropriate camps such as Ligonier Camp

o       Mission and service opportunities.

o       Retreats and events that move students forward in their faith.

-          Assist the Crusader Choir director in recruiting members to the youth choir.

-          Develop a personal ministry to students through small groups, mentoring, training leaders and utilizing volunteers.

-          Communicate regularly and personally with parents and enlist their help and involvement.

-          Meet with the Youth Ministry Team monthly and as needed.

-          Equip Youth leaders and teachers.

-          Prepare a yearly budget to be approved by Session.

-          Serve as staff with Summer’s Best Two Weeks (SB2W) at Graystone.

 

Other Responsibilities and Expectations:  It is expected that this person will be in collegial and edifying relationships with all staff and church members.  Therefore, it is expected that communication about ministry activities and personal commitments that affect ministry will be clearly, completely and timely communicated to the appropriate people.  It is also expected that their personal life will be consistent with the gospel and a model to the community.

In addition the following participation is expected:

-          Weekly staff meetings,

-          Regular meetings with your supervisor,

-          Counseling with students and parents as appropriate,

-          Embraces our worship and encouraging our youth to do the same,

-          Assisting in worship if requested,

-          Annual staff reviews,

-          Be responsible to Sr. Pastor and session for personal growth and ministry.

 

 Qualifications: 

-          A love for God and all people, especially youth.

-          Energetic.

-          Able to lead youth.

-          Able to relate well with parents and adults.

-          Able to work as part of a team – teachable and approachable.

-          An undergraduate degree or above.

-          A working knowledge of the Presbyterian Church preferred but not required.

-          Willingness to be accountable in ministry and personal growth.

-          Musical ability a plus but not required.
