BACK 2 SCHOOL BASH

One in five children (approximately 17,000) in Indiana County live in a family that struggles to provide the clothing, shoes, school supplies, eye glasses and haircuts to send their children back to school in the fall, while economic constraints force schools to continue to cut back on basic supplies for school children. 

 

For the third year, a coalition of churches, area businesses, and other organizations is putting together a Back to School Bash, with the mission of letting these children know that we care!  Last year, nearly 1000 children received gently used clothing, backpacks, school supplies and haircuts to prepare them for school.   

 

Families are screened by ICCAP and the Salvation Army to ensure they meet criteria for participation. Gently used clothing, school supplies, and backpacks will be distributed in a festive atmosphere with booths offering educational and entertaining activities, live music playing, and free food.  

 

VOLUNTEER PARTICIPATION makes this event a success. There are many ways to participate:  · donate gently used clothing and/or school supplies (see lists on back of insert),· donate money,· bring in new (in unopened packages) underwear or socks on “Undie Sunday” (July 31st),· get your small group or Sunday School class to come up with an idea for a booth, or volunteer your time.
