At Graystone Presbyterian Church in Indiana, PA, we are committed to embracing everyone, especially the next generation, as we journey together in following Jesus. Our church is a place where worship, community, and service come together to glorify God.
Our services are filled with uplifting music, inspiring sermons, and a sense of community. We strive to create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and valued.
Graystone is part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church which is a family of churches that exist to carry out the Great Commission as Presbyterian, Reformed, Evangelical, and Missional congregations. Each of those words speaks to our purpose and our method, but as part of this denomination we also subscribe to beliefs in the Essentials of Faith that are more fully fleshed out in the Westminster Confession of Faith. To read more on our beliefs you can find those here.
Our mission is to follow Jesus and welcome people. Because of this, we are committed to living out the values of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We aren’t content to just follow Jesus on Sunday mornings, but in every square inch of our lives.
We believe that the gift of salvation redeems, renews, and changes who we are and impacts all aspects of our lives and everything we do. This includes our work, our play, our relationships, our value as a person as Jesus uses us to build His kingdom here and now and for the future.
We are people that are anchored, fed, and shaped by God’s word
We believe that the Bible is inspired by God and reveals who He is, His redemptive plan for us and the world, and is our guide for us in our everyday lives. If we’ve decided to follow Jesus, we need to know where He is going.
We equip parents, children, youth, and young adults to lead our church and the world into a future defined by the Gospel.
The Pastors and the Session (the Teaching and Ruling Elders of our church) have heard the specific threefold call that Jesus has for the congregation of Graystone. That’s you and me by the way not someone else. The first part is Jesus has called us to equip our children, youth and young adults with the message of the Gospel, to have a personal relationship with our Savior Jesus, to grow in that relationship, and be able to pass that message of God’s love and redemption on.
We are together because God made us a family and even when it’s messy, it’s worth it.
Part of God’s call is to be together. We are Jesus’ brothers and sisters. When we are together we reveal to each other different glimpses of who Jesus is and together we can follow Him better. This side of Heaven we are still imperfect and that’s why family can be messy. We are called to love, bear with, forgive and encourage each other as we walk together with Jesus.
We bring the hope found only in Jesus into our homes, communities, and the world.
Jesus final call to his disciples and us is this final value. As we go to our homes our jobs our communities. Wherever we are the light of the hope that is within us is to be shared so that the message of Christ’s redemptive love changes our world. This message is revealed by our love in our words and our deeds.
Our Classical service (8:30-9:30 a.m.) features hymns led by our Chancel Choir and accompanied by a powerful organ. Children are invited to participate in this service alongside their families and many families use this time to instruct their kids on how to sit in service. We have a kid's bulletin to encourage them to follow along. Many who attend this service dress formally/business casual, though that is not a standard we hold. Come as you are!
Both of our Sunday worship services are centered on the Gospel. Though our services differ in musical style, both services contain elements of prayer, singing, giving, and hearing the Word preached. On Sunday, everything in the service is part of worship...it is all centered on glorifying God for His goodness and love.
Generally, on the first Sunday of every month, we have communion at both services. This is a high point in our worship. In our services, we invite everyone who has professed faith in Jesus and desires to receive communion to participate in this important time.
Usually going a little over an hour, our informal service (11:00-12:00 p.m.) is led in song by our 11:00 a.m. music team. The congregation sings current praise music, hymns at times, and everything in between. Like the 8:30 a.m., children are invited to participate with their families in the service and just before the sermon, children (pre-k through 5th) are dismissed to our Kid's Space below the sanctuary for a time together of singing, learning, and playing in a way that is more age appropriate for them. Our folks dress casual for this service, but with a few exceptions. All are welcome!
